Deadline: Thursday 19 December, 12:00 Midday.
40-day fixed-term post from June 2020 to March 2021, with the majority of the role undertaken in the autumn term 2020.
Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund, The NASH is recruiting an Education and Outreach Officer who will engage primary-school children and adults in their local heritage through an exciting new project: The Story of Schools.
About the Project
The NASH is partnering with Dales Countryside Museum to explore The Story of Schools in the Upper Dales, a remote and beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The story will unfold through the gathering of oral histories, historical research and an exciting art commission from The People's Picture in which 1000+ photos will come together to create a whole new image - celebrating the schools & youth of the Dales from the dawn of photography to now. They’ll be an extensive education programme and activity will culminate in a three-month exhibition at Dales Countryside Museum in early 2021.
Education & Outreach Officer Post
We are looking for a creative and dynamic individual with an interest in history and digital media to run all of the project’s engagement activity in schools and community centres. This person will work closely with the Project Manager and become a key member of The Story of Schools team. Activities include: devising and teaching up to fifteen in-depth sessions with Key Stage 2 pupils at local primary schools; working with filmmakers and theatre practitioners to enhance learning; running a wider campaign to encourage everyone in the community to locate their photos of school life/youth in the Upper Dales and share them through social media and drop-ins; coordinating school visits to the exhibition at Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes and devising a learning resource for the musuem to be used after the project ends. The post is based in the Upper Dales and requires flexible working patterns.
